Sabal palmetto (Palmetto Palm)
40 'S. palmetto high trunked palm is dominant in the southeast United States. Its original range is from northern Florida to coastal North Carolina. As with S. minor, seed varieties are grown and are a particular genetic population. (Resistance zones 8-10)
S. Palmetto 'Bald Head Island "(Bald Head Island Palmetto Palm)
is the northernmost native stand S. palmettos in the country resides on bald head island, NC. We found seedlings from these plants, especially winter hardy in our climate, shows no damage since 1999. (Hardiness Zones 7b-10)
S. Palmetto 'Lisa' (Lisa Palmetto Palm)
This is most unusual blocked list as S. palmetto, and allegedly the one who has an exceptional winter hardiness. I have yet to try it in the ground in zone 7b. (Resistance zones 8-10, guessing)
S. palmetto "Mt. Holly (Holly Mt Palmetto Palm)
This is another extremely winter hardy as S. palmetto grows from the seeds of plants in Mt. Holly (west of Charlotte), North Carolina. Planted in 1960, and 18-20 'palms have survived -5 degrees C in its current location. We had them in the garden since 1999 with no signs oštećenja.Lišće on this form is much narrower than what we think of as typical of S. palmetto.
S. palmetto "Rock Hill (Rock Hill Palmetto Palm)
palmettos are S. To stand out in Rock Hill, SC (south of Charlotte NC). They were planted in 1950, and survived a record low temperature of -8 degrees F 1984-1985.Lišće this form are much larger than S. palmetto "Mt. Holly" shape, and showed less winter hardiness in our trials. (Hardiness Zones 7b-10)
S. palmetto "Hardy Tifton (Tifton Hardy Palmetto Palm)
This seed strain of S. palmetto southeast native has collected a retired City of Raleigh horticulturist Noel Weston on a journey through the Tifton, Georgia after the 1980 freeze that killed most palmettos. Noel found undamaged copy of the Tifton hotel and collected the seed. Expect a 10 'timber in 15 godina.Ostavlja in this form are as wide as S. palmetto "Rock Hill". (Hardiness Zone 7b-10)
S. rose (Savannah Palmetto)
This little-known palm comes from the west coast of Mexico, where it can be found in the tropical deciduous forests up to 2,500 'elevation to the south of Culiacan Guadalajari.40' tall palms resemble the eastern coast of S. palmetto, but with a very stiff costapalmate leaves. plants in Georgia Bamboo Farm were 15 degrees C, and Alabama's Jackson Hayes reports that his plants withstand 8 degrees C, so that you feel are worth a try for gardeners willing to experiment. S. Rosei likes well-draining soils and places in the full Sun Male plants in our garden has survived 9 degrees F in 2009, although the leaves burned off. (resistance zones 8b-10, at least)
Sabal sp. Tamaulipas (Mexican Scrub Palm)
(aka: S. minor YD 17-55) This unique, garden worthy of palm trees is lumped in S. minor, which is bizarre, if you grow these two plants side by side. Sabal sp. Tamaulipas is S. minor on steroids, growing three times faster, with much larger leaves, and much more sjeme.6 'wide costapalmate (bend in the middle) leaves adorn the 8' tall clumps. Our parent plant is the 1988 Yucca whether the seeds of the expedition to Tamaulipas, Mexico, where these palms were found around 1,500 'elevation. Although seemingly trunkless, older specimens develop horizontal trunk up to 4 "long lying on the ground. Our oldest plant, installed in 1997, have reached 8 'in height. (Hardiness Zone 7b-10)
S. uresana (Sonoran Palmetto)
from 4500 to the 'high ground in the valleys and foothills of the Sierra Madre Occidental (Sonora and Chihuahua state) in western Mexico comes this relative of Sabal palmetto, which works well in the East Coast Zone 8 gardens. S. uresana is very slow, but eventually (in Grand-children life) makes a stunning 30 'tall tree with costapalmate silvery-green foliage and contrasting dark brown trunk. If you enjoy experimenting, sabal uresana is good to try.
